CAMS NCP Italy Initiative

Utilisation of EWC in the CAMS NCP Italy initiative

In Italy, the use of the EWC infrastructure is coordinated nationally within the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) and Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) National Collaboration Programmes (NCPs), supporting air quality, hydro-meteorological and climate services.

Under the CAMS NCP, a consortium of thirteen public institutions at the national and local level — including regional environmental protection agencies and research centres — works to optimise the use of CAMS Regional air quality products, with the aim to provide downscaled and added-value information for policymakers and citizens.

This work relies on continuous data exchange and post-processing capabilities: the EWC infrastructure serves as a centralized data hub, offering both storage and computing resources facilitating the workflow optimization, which includes the computation of a 3-model national air quality forecast ensemble, and data sharing among partners.

More details can be found from the presentation given during the EWC User Workshop in Bologna on September 18, 2025.
